Adversity Strikes at Round One of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for Evolution Sponsored Driver, Josh Stanton

We attended Donington Park for round one of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with Josh Stanton, who has been supported by Evolution for several race seasons now.

Josh got off to a fantastic start for 2024, qualifying P3 in the ProAm category with a time of 1:05.482, only 0.238 off P1. However, bad luck struck and contact with another car forced Stanton to retire from race one at turn 2.

Then, due to adverse weather conditions, race two was cancelled. Josh will contest this race again, starting P9, when we visit Brands Hatch on 11th May.

Reflecting on his first outing of the season, Josh said, “It’s certainly good to be back! After a great qualifying, 3rd in class and 0.2s off outright pole, it’s gutting to have our race ended at Turn 2.

“Nonetheless, we look for the positives and will bounce back at Brands Hatch in two weeks!

“Huge thanks to Evolution and Grayson Pace 59 for making this possible! It’s such a privilege to race these cars and we won’t let one little setback knock us down - onwards to Brands!”

Richard Lambert of Evolution Security commented: “A great qualifying on Saturday placed Josh 10th on the grid and 3rd in the ProAms!

“Sunday was wet, wet, wet and resulted in only one Porsche race which saw Josh knocked off the circuit in the first lap having made up a place at the start! The car limped back to the pits and couldn’t be repaired in time to get back in the race. Very disappointing for all.

“Let’s hope next weekend again at Donington proves more successful when Josh competes in the Stirling Moss Trophy.”
